Velvet Zǐsè
Velvet Zǐsè (#4D024A) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (302°, 95%, 15%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. A short-pile woven fabric — silk, cotton, or rayon — whose densely packed vertical fibers absorb almost all incident light, producing a deeper black than the dye alone could give. The color refers to a black silk velvet: a deep, slightly muted black with the velvet's signature optical depth and the directional shading that distinguishes it from any flat fabric. Cooler than sable, deeper than ink.
Chinese 紫色, deep purple color — the formal color name for imperial purple in Chinese color terminology, distinguished from the broader zǐ (purple). Zǐsè color refers to a Qing-dynasty qipao dress in formal court-purple silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath fermentation-and-mineral dye on tussah silk. Slightly warmer than Japanese murasaki.
