Neon Lapwing
Neon Lapwing (#499DED) is a true azure with a vibrant character. It holds its own as a focal accent, carrying visual weight without tipping into neon territory. Etymology
Greek néon, new — element-name (atomic-number 10), discovered by William Ramsay in 1898. As a color modifier, neon implies a saturated-and-electric-glow quality, the bright color of Las-Vegas-and-Times-Square neon-marquee gas-discharge-tube emission. Sits at the bright-and-electric end of the grid, parallel to electric and fluorescent in usage.
The genus Vanellus — plover relatives — particularly V. vanellus (northern lapwing), whose males display iridescent blue-black plumage on back and crest. The color refers to a male northern lapwing in breeding plumage: a saturated, slightly cool dark blue-green with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored feathers.
