Forthright Blueschist
Forthright Blueschist (#476DFE) is a true blue with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (228°, 99%, 64%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English forð-riht, straight ahead, direct. Used as a color modifier in Anglo-Saxon-revival contexts for hues that read as honest and unguarded. Forthright red, forthright blue: the saturation is full, the hue is presented without ornamentation or qualification. Sits in the bold-bucket center alongside frank and direct.
A metamorphic rock — formed under low-temperature high-pressure conditions in subduction zones — characterized by the deep blue of glaucophane amphibole. The color refers to a freshly cut blueschist specimen: a soft, slightly cool deep blue with the metallic-gray-fibrous finish of crystallized amphibole.
