The color refers to a piece of unglazed Wedgwood jasper: a soft, slightly muted pale blue with the matte finish of a stoneware body colored by cobalt salts. Lighter than periwinkle, cooler than wedgwood-the-blue's later imitations, with the institutional weight of a brand that's been continuously produced for 250 years.
