Old English forð-riht, straight ahead, direct. Used as a color modifier in Anglo-Saxon-revival contexts for hues that read as honest and unguarded. The Hindi-Urdu word for indigo — borrowed from the Sanskrit nīla (dark blue) — and the source of the English aniline and many South Asian textile-dye terms.
