Forthright Comfrey

#3f8c1d
Notes

Forthright Comfrey (#3F8C1D) is a deep green with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (102°, 66%, 33%) places it in the balanced band at a dark lightness. It works well as a headline, icon, or deep background in an otherwise light layout, pairing cleanly with cream, bone, and warm neutrals. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary violet. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Forthright
adjective

Old English forð-riht, straight ahead, direct. Used as a color modifier in Anglo-Saxon-revival contexts for hues that read as honest and unguarded. Forthright red, forthright blue: the saturation is full, the hue is presented without ornamentation or qualification. Sits in the bold-bucket center alongside frank and direct.

Comfrey
noun

Symphytum officinale, the European medicinal plant whose green leaves and root were used in traditional European bone-setting and wound treatment — also known as boneset or knitbone. Comfrey color refers to fresh comfrey leaves on a hedge bank: a soft, slightly muted gray-green with the matte finish of pubescent leaf surface. Cooler than nettle.

Moderately saturated colors gain a small bump in P3 — the difference is usually visible side-by-side on wide-gamut hardware but won't change the character of the color.
