Shadowy Trogon (#3D1664) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (270°, 64%, 24%) places it in the balanced band at a dark lightness. It works well as a headline, icon, or deep background in an otherwise light layout, pairing cleanly with cream, bone, and warm neutrals. Etymology
Old English sceaduwig, full of shadow — adjectival form of shadow. As a color modifier, shadowy implies a deep-and-obscured quality where the hue is partially-occluded by intervening shade. Sits at the deep-and-veiled end of the grid, parallel to shaded and cloaked in usage.
Central- and South-American Trogon family — particularly the violaceous trogon (Trogon violaceus) of Amazonian-rainforest canopies, whose breeding-plumage males have iridescent deep-violet head-and-breast plumage. Trogon color refers to a Trogon violaceus male's breast feather field: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored feather barbs over melanin substrate.
