Pitchy Halo (#3D1170) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (268°, 74%, 25%) places it in the balanced band at a dark lightness. It works well as a headline, icon, or deep background in an otherwise light layout, pairing cleanly with cream, bone, and warm neutrals. Etymology
Old English pic, pitch — adjectival suffix -y. As a color modifier, pitchy implies the deep-glossy-black quality of bitumen-and-pine-pitch viscous-residue surfaces, particularly the Norse-and-Viking longship-pine-tar caulking. Sits at the deepest-warm end of the grid, parallel to tarry and warmer than Stygian.
