Fluorescent Wraith Jade

Latin fluēre, to flow — adjectival suffix -escent. As a color modifier, fluorescent implies a saturated-and-UV-stimulated-glow quality, the bright color of fluorite-and-ZnS mineral-pigment fluorescent-lamp emission. Sits at the bright-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to phosphorescent and neon in usage.

Scots wraith, ghost-or-apparition. As a color modifier, wraith implies a ghostly-and-pale-and-apparitional quality, the visual register of Highland-Scots-and-Border-Ballad-wraith hand-ghostly-and-pale-and-apparitional Highland-Scots-and-Border-Ballad-and-Hebridean wraith-and-ghostly-and-pale surfaces under Highland-Scots-and-Border-Ballad-and-Hebridean moonlit-and-mist-shrouded-and-pale graveyard-and-tarn-light. Two minerals share the name: nephrite (a calcium-magnesium silicate, dominant in Chinese jade) and jadeite (a sodium-aluminum silicate, dominant in Burmese imperial jade). Both have been carved in China since at least the Neolithic. The color refers to high-quality apple-green jadeite: a saturated, slightly muted yellow-green with the waxy translucency of polished stone. Cooler than apple, warmer than mint, with the millennial cultural weight of yu, the stone of heaven.
