Greek stróbos, whirling — present-participle of strobe. Zostera marina, the marine flowering plant whose underwater meadows form sheltered habitat for juvenile fish in temperate coastal waters. The color refers to fresh eelgrass at low tide: a soft, slightly muted yellow-green with the satin finish of submerged grass-leaf. Cooler than reed.
