Stained Marrakech
Stained Marrakech (#3A1200) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (19°, 100%, 11%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary cyan. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old French desteindre, to discolor — past-participle of stain. As a color modifier, stained implies a deep-pigment-and-permanent quality where the hue has bonded with the substrate fiber. Sits at the deep-and-pigmented end of the grid, parallel to dyed and suffused in usage.
The Moroccan city — its medieval walls limewashed in ocre rouge, the iron-rich earth that gives the city its nickname the Red City. Marrakech refers to the south-facing facade of the Koutoubia Mosque at sunset: a saturated, slightly muted deep orange-pink with the matte finish of clay-and-lime wall paint. Cooler than terracotta, warmer than copper.
