Hollowed Ube

#3a0757
Notes

Hollowed Ube (#3A0757) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (278°, 85%, 18%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Hollowed
adjective

Old English holh, hollow — past-participle of hollow. As a color modifier, hollowed implies the deep-and-cavernous-and-architectural quality of carved-out-cave-and-tunnel interior, particularly the Cappadocian and Lalibela hand-carved rock-cut churches and underground cities. Sits at the deep-and-architectural end of the grid, parallel to cavernous with hand-carved register.

Ube
noun

Filipino purple yam (Dioscorea alata) — a tropical climbing vine cultivated for its deep-violet starchy tuber, the eponymous flavor-base for ube halaya jam, halo-halo shaved-ice dessert, and modern ube cake. Ube color refers to a freshly mashed Dioscorea alata tuber-flesh: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of anthocyanin-rich starchy yam-pulp. The Tagalog name ube derives from the Cebuano ubi.
