Etymology
From the Greek elektron, amber — the substance whose static-electric properties were observed by Thales of Miletus. The genus Polypodium — small evergreen ferns that grow on rocks and tree branches in temperate forests. The color refers to mature P. vulgare fronds: a saturated, slightly cool deep yellow-green with the satin finish of small persistent fern leaves.
