Inky Coronet
Inky Coronet (#370D67) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (268°, 78%, 23%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
An adjectival form of ink, used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century to suggest the deep saturated black of fresh writing ink seen against white paper. Less about literal blackness than about the optical density of a fluid that absorbs light through its full thickness. Used at the dark end of any saturated hue: an inky blue is a deep saturated blue with the optical depth of pigment in solution.
Old French coronete, little crown — a small ornamental crown worn by lower-rank European nobility (dukes, earls, viscounts, barons) and Crown Princes of Britain. The coronet of an English duke is set with deep-blue sapphire. Coronet color refers to an English duke's coronet with its sapphire alternation: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the glassy finish of polished Ceylon sapphire on gilt metal.
