Greek Erebine, of Erebus — adjectival form of Erebus, the primordial deity of darkness in Hesiod's Theogony. The Hindi word for green — used for the saturated lime-green of fresh hara dhaniya (cilantro), hara mirch (green chili), and the hara saag leafy-green dishes of North Indian cooking.
