Ebon Ryzhiy
Ebon Ryzhiy (#311204) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (19°, 85%, 10%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
A poetic shortening of ebony — used principally in nineteenth-century verse and Edgar Allan Poe (The Raven — ebon bird). As a color modifier, ebon is a literary register for deep black with slight warmth, distinct from the cooler inky and the harder jet. Carries the same weight as the wood it borrows from.
The Russian word for red-orange or ginger — used for autumn foliage, fox fur, and the hair of redheads. Ryzhiy implies a slight blue-green undertone in shadow that distinguishes it from pure orange. The color refers to a ginger-cat coat in afternoon sun: a soft, slightly muted red-orange with the matte finish of mammalian fur. Drier than ember, warmer than rust.
