Erebine Calendula
Erebine Calendula (#310B03) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (10°, 88%, 10%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Greek Erebine, of Erebus — adjectival form of Erebus, the primordial deity of darkness in Hesiod's Theogony. Calendula officinalis, the pot marigold of medieval European herbal gardens — used as a saffron substitute in Renaissance kitchens and as a wound-healing salve in Victorian apothecaries. The color refers to a fully open Calendula flower: a saturated, slightly red yellow-orange with the matte finish of small ray-florets. Cooler than marigold, brighter than goldenrod.
