Animated Spirulina

#2cf4ca
Notes

Animated Spirulina (#2CF4CA) is a true teal with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (167°, 90%, 56%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary red. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Animated
adjective

Latin animātus, given-life — past-participle of animāre, derived from anima (soul, breath). As a color modifier, animated implies a saturated-and-life-given quality where the hue carries visual movement-and-vitality. Sits at the bright-and-active end of the grid, parallel to spirited and lively in usage.

Spirulina
noun

Arthrospira platensis, the cyanobacterium harvested from alkaline lakes since the time of the Aztecs and now sold globally as a nutritional supplement and natural food coloring. The color refers to fresh-dried spirulina powder in a small bowl: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the matte finish of dehydrated cyanobacterial cells. Cooler than algae.
