Smouldered Vesuvianite
Smouldered Vesuvianite (#2C500A) is a deep lime with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (91°, 78%, 18%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
From Old English smolderian, to burn slowly — past-participle of smoulder. As a color modifier, smouldered implies the deep glowing-dark quality of fire-warmed embers, where the underlying hue retains warmth even at low lightness. Sits at the deep-and-warm end of the grid, somewhere between charred and burnt.
A calcium-aluminum-magnesium silicate gem — also called idocrase — mined principally near Mount Vesuvius (the source of its name) and in California. Yellow-green to brown-green in color. The color refers to a faceted Italian vesuvianite: a saturated, slightly muted yellow-green with the gem's internal warmth.
