Etymology
The progressive participle of dazzle, to overwhelm with brightness — used as a color word since the seventeenth century for hues that read as intense enough to be momentarily blinding. The Arabic word for green — used for the deep green of the Khidr (the Green One) in Islamic mysticism, the green domes of mosques, and the Jabal al-Akhdar (Green Mountain) of Oman.
