Even Chromite
Even Chromite (#250300) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (5°, 100%, 7%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old English efen, flat, equal — used as a color modifier since the medieval period for hues that read as uniformly distributed across a surface. Chromite color refers to a freshly mined Bushveld chromite polished massive specimen in raking light: a saturated, slightly cool deep black with the metallic finish of spinel-group iron-chromium-oxide. The mineral is the only commercial source of chromium and a strategic mineral.
