Holographic Manganese

#23d2f9
Notes

Holographic Manganese (#23D2F9) is a true cyan with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (191°, 95%, 56%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary red. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Holographic
adjective

Greek hólos (whole) and graphé (writing) — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, holographic implies a saturated-and-multi-angle-shifting quality, the bright color of holographic-credit-card and trading-card dichroic-film 3D-image-reflection. Sits at the bright-and-shifting end of the grid, parallel to iridescent and prismatic in usage.

Manganese
noun

Manganese Blue — a synthetic barium-manganese-oxide pigment introduced in 1935 as a more lightfast alternative to cerulean blue. The color refers to fresh Manganese Blue paint in oil: a saturated, slightly cool bright blue with the matte finish of mineral pigment in linseed oil. Brighter than cerulean.

Moderately saturated colors gain a small bump in P3 — the difference is usually visible side-by-side on wide-gamut hardware but won't change the character of the color.
