Eclipsed Murex
Eclipsed Murex (#1F0635) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (272°, 80%, 12%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to occluded with astronomical connotation.
Bolinus brandaris and Hexaplex trunculus — the two principal Mediterranean sea-snail genera whose hypobranchial-gland secretion was processed into Tyrian purple dye for two-and-a-half millennia. Murex color refers to a freshly Murex-dye-bath-emerged Phoenician trade-textile: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath shellfish-dye on hand-loomed Levantine wool. The Latin murex gives English murexide, a synthetic violet-red dye.
