Spectral Oolong
Spectral Oolong (#1AB8F7) is a true cyan with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (197°, 93%, 54%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary orange. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin spectrum, appearance — adjectival suffix -al. As a color modifier, spectral implies a saturated-and-rainbow-decomposed-and-pure quality, the bright color of Newton-prism sunlight-decomposed seven-color spectrum band. Sits at the bright-and-pure end of the grid, parallel to prismatic and pure in usage.
The partially-oxidized Chinese tea — qīng-chá (cyan tea) — with the deep blue-green liquor distinct from green tea (lower oxidation) and black tea (higher oxidation). The color refers to fresh-brewed Tieguanyin oolong: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the optical depth of partially-fermented tea liquor.
