Cool Augite
Cool Augite (#1A0104) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (353°, 93%, 5%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary teal. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English cōl, of low temperature — used as a color modifier as the complement to warm. Cool gray, cool blue: the optical impression of a slight blue-green shift, even within otherwise warm or neutral hues. Sits across the crisp, hushed, pale, and neutral buckets.

Augite color refers to a freshly cleaved Etna augite phenocryst face: a saturated, slightly cool deep black with the glassy finish of monoclinic-system iron-magnesium-calcium pyroxene. The Greek genus name augē (luster) refers to its bright cleavage-reflection.
