Pressed Crete
Pressed Crete (#1979A6) is a true cyan with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (199°, 74%, 37%) places it in the balanced band at a mid lightness. It works across type, buttons, and borders, saturated enough to feel deliberate but balanced enough to not fight the rest of the palette. Etymology
Latin pressāre, to press — past-participle of press. As a color modifier, pressed implies a clear-and-smoothed-and-flattened quality, the crisp color of Mid-Century-Modern freshly-pressed-shirt-and-trouser ironed-textile finish. Sits at the crisp-and-finished end of the grid, parallel to ironed and starched in usage.
The largest Greek island — and the saturated deep blue of Cretan beach water at Elafonissi and Balos Lagoon. Crete color refers to the lagoon at Balos: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the optical clarity of warm Aegean water filtered through pink-coral sand.
