Lionhearted Fennel
Lionhearted Fennel (#167A01) is a deep green with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (110°, 98%, 24%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old English lēona-heorte, lion's-heart — referring to Richard I Lionheart (1157–1199). As a color modifier, lionhearted implies a saturated-and-courageous-and-royal quality, the deep-rich color of Crusader-period English Plantagenet-royalty armorial bearings. Sits at the bold-and-chivalrous end of the grid, parallel to valiant and heroic.
Foeniculum vulgare, the Mediterranean herb whose feathery yellow-green fronds and bulb-like stem base are essential to Italian and French cooking. The color refers to fresh fennel fronds: a saturated, slightly cool feathery yellow-green with the matte finish of dissected leaves. Drier than dill.
