Old English croft, small-enclosed-field — adjectival usage of croft. Augite color refers to a freshly cleaved Etna augite phenocryst face: a saturated, slightly cool deep black with the glassy finish of monoclinic-system iron-magnesium-calcium pyroxene. The Greek genus name augē (luster) refers to its bright cleavage-reflection.
