Crisp Frieze Moss

Latin crispus, curled — drifted in English from the curled hair sense to fresh and clean. As a color modifier, crisp implies saturation combined with optical clarity, with no haze or film between the eye and the surface. Used across the bright and crisp buckets where the hue is fresh-looking. Slightly less assertive than vivid.

Old French frise, band-of-decoration. As a color modifier, frieze implies a horizontal-decorative-band quality, the visual register of Greek-Parthenon-and-Roman-Imperial-frieze hand-carved Doric-and-Ionic-and-Corinthian classical-decorative-frieze architectural surfaces under classical-frieze decorative-band light. Sits at the modifier-and-architecture end of the grid, parallel to eave and plinth in usage.

Bryophyta — the nonvascular plants that colonized land 470 million years ago, before vascular plants and far before flowers. The color refers to a thick mat of Hypnum or sphagnum on a temperate forest floor: a soft, slightly yellow-shifted green with the velvet texture of millimeter-scale leaves.
