Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. The genus Hepatica — liverwort flower, European-and-North-American spring-blooming perennials with saturated deep-blue flowers among the earliest to bloom in temperate forests. The color refers to a fresh H. nobilis in March: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the satin finish of six-tepaled spring flower.
