Latin regiōnālis, of-a-region — adjectival suffix -al. German Schiefer, slate — particularly the deep-blue-gray Mosel-Schiefer slate quarried from the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge for Mosel-Valley wine-estate roofs and Riesling-vineyard terrace-walls. Schiefer color refers to a Bernkastel-Kues Mosel-Schiefer roof-tile face in raking sun: a dark blue-gray with the matte finish of Devonian-Era slate-shale on a hand-cut roofing tile.
