Bastioned Hyacinth
Bastioned Hyacinth (#117BF3) is a true azure with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (212°, 90%, 51%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Italian bastionato, fortified-with-bastions — past-participle of bastion, derived from bastia (fortified-tower). As a color modifier, bastioned implies a saturated-and-fortified-and-projecting quality, the deep-rich color of Vauban-period military-fortress star-fort projecting-bastion stone-architecture. Sits at the bold-and-fortified end of the grid, parallel to fortified and buttressed.
Hyacinthus orientalis, the bulb cultivated in Persian and Ottoman gardens since at least the eleventh century, named in Greek myth for the youth Hyakinthos accidentally killed by Apollo. The color refers to a fresh purple-blue hyacinth in spring bloom: a saturated, slightly violet-shifted blue with the matte finish of densely packed corollas. Cooler than larkspur, warmer than iris, with the perfumed weight of a flower whose scent fills a greenhouse from doorway to back wall.
