Earnest Smaragdite
Earnest Smaragdite (#105F03) is a deep green with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (112°, 94%, 19%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary violet. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Sits in the bold-and-quiet corner of the grid, slightly less luminous than resolute and slightly less institutional than imperial.
An emerald-green variety of amphibole — closely related to actinolite, found in metamorphic rocks of the Italian Alps. The color refers to a polished Italian smaragdite: a saturated, slightly muted deep green with the slight fibrous texture of amphibole crystallography.
