Tailored Squid
Tailored Squid (#0C0124) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (259°, 95%, 7%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French tailleor, cutter — past-participle of tailor. As a color modifier, tailored implies a neutral-and-fitted-and-precise quality, the neutral color of Savile-Row-and-Gucci-tailoring hand-cut-and-fitted-precise gentleman's-and-lady's-tailoring craft-finish. Sits at the neutral-and-traditional end of the grid, parallel to fitted and bespoke in usage.
The ink ejected by squid (and cuttlefish, octopus) as a defensive cloud — melanin in a polysaccharide carrier. Used in Mediterranean cooking as nero di seppia for black pasta and risotto. The color refers to fresh squid ink in pasta water: a deep, slightly cool near-black with the optical density of melanin in suspension. Cooler than ink, warmer than vantablack, with the kitchen specificity of a black that flavors as well as colors.
