Infernal Trafalgar
Infernal Trafalgar (#0B3695) is a deep azure with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Latin infernālis, of the lower realms — derived from infernus (underworld). As a color modifier, infernal implies the deep-glowing-furnace-darkness of Dante-Inferno-and-Bosch-tryptich infernal imagery, with the warm undertone of fire-light against shadow. Sits at the deep-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to hellish and warmer than Hadean.
The Cape Trafalgar headland off southern Spain — site of the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar (Nelson's decisive naval victory over Napoleon's fleet). Trafalgar color refers to the deep blue of HMS Victory's preserved hull paint at Portsmouth: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of period-correct marine paint.
