Folded Kihachijō
Folded Kihachijō (#094885) is a deep azure with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (210°, 87%, 28%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old English fealdan, to fold — past-participle of fold. As a color modifier, folded implies a clear-and-creased-and-arranged quality where the hue carries the visual register of carefully-folded-and-neatly-arranged textile surface. Sits at the crisp-and-finished end of the grid, parallel to pressed and trim in usage.
The traditional indigo-dyed silk of Hachijō island in Tokyo's southern archipelago — produced from native kobaicha (yellow-brown) and aogarami (deep blue) dyes since at least the eighteenth century. Kihachijō-iro refers to the saturated medium blue of the silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the satin finish of plant-dyed island silk.
