Magnetite color refers to a freshly mined Kiruna magnetite polished cabochon in raking light: a saturated, slightly cool deep black with the metallic finish of ferrimagnetic spinel-group iron-oxide. The mineral is the source of the Greek magnesia lithos (magnesia stone).
