Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. The genus Pittosporum — Australasian and East Asian broadleaf evergreens whose dense glossy foliage is used as a hedge plant in coastal Mediterranean gardens. The color refers to fresh P. tobira leaves: a saturated, slightly cool deep green with the glossy finish of waxy cuticle.
