Eclipsed Firmament (#05282C) is a deep cyan with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to occluded with astronomical connotation.
The biblical sky-vault — and God called the firmament Heaven (Genesis). Firmament in literary and religious color vocabulary refers to the saturated deep blue of the cloudless midday sky as seen from a desert or mountain: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the optical brightness of a clear high-altitude atmosphere.
