Infernal Polypody
Infernal Polypody (#043102) is a deep green with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (117°, 92%, 10%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Latin infernālis, of the lower realms — derived from infernus (underworld). As a color modifier, infernal implies the deep-glowing-furnace-darkness of Dante-Inferno-and-Bosch-tryptich infernal imagery, with the warm undertone of fire-light against shadow. Sits at the deep-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to hellish and warmer than Hadean.
The genus Polypodium — small evergreen ferns that grow on rocks and tree branches in temperate forests. The color refers to mature P. vulgare fronds: a saturated, slightly cool deep yellow-green with the satin finish of small persistent fern leaves.
