Eclipsed Gabardine (#042B54) is a deep azure with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (211°, 91%, 17%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to occluded with astronomical connotation.
A tightly woven worsted-wool twill — invented by Thomas Burberry in 1879 — used for the original Burberry trench coat and military waterproof outerwear. Gabardine color refers to a classic Burberry-blue gabardine: a soft, slightly cool deep blue-gray with the matte finish of tightly woven twill.
