Erebine Cosmos

#031e3b
Notes

Erebine Cosmos (#031E3B) is a deep azure with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (211°, 90%, 12%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary orange. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Erebine
adjective

Greek Erebine, of Erebus — adjectival form of Erebus, the primordial deity of darkness in Hesiod's Theogony. As a color modifier, erebine implies the deepest primordial-darkness of pre-cosmic chaos, with literary-cosmological register. Sits at the deepest-and-coolest end of the grid, parallel to Stygian and Cimmerian.

Cosmos
noun

The Greek word for order — used in classical philosophy for the ordered universe and in modern English for the deep-space sky beyond Earth's atmosphere. Cosmos color refers to a long-exposure deep-space photograph: a saturated, slightly cool very deep blue with the optical depth of unfiltered upper-atmospheric scattering.
