Ebon Azul
Ebon Azul (#02388C) is a deep azure with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (217°, 97%, 28%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
A poetic shortening of ebony — used principally in nineteenth-century verse and Edgar Allan Poe (The Raven — ebon bird). As a color modifier, ebon is a literary register for deep black with slight warmth, distinct from the cooler inky and the harder jet. Carries the same weight as the wood it borrows from.
The Spanish word for blue — used for the saturated deep blue of Andalusian azulejo tile (the same word, al-zulayj, gives Spanish ceramics their name). Azul spans the entire blue-azure range in Iberian color vocabulary. The color refers to a glazed Andalusian azulejo tile: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the high gloss of fired ceramic.
