Occluded Vasilek

#022e7e
Notes

Occluded Vasilek (#022E7E) is a deep azure with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (219°, 97%, 25%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Occluded
adjective

Latin occludere, to close up — past-participle of occlude. As a color modifier, occluded implies a hue blocked-and-dimmed by an intervening physical barrier. Sits at the deep-and-obscured end of the grid, parallel to eclipsed and cloaked but more clinical in register.

Vasilek
noun

The Russian word for cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) — and the saturated bright blue of cornflower fields among Russian wheat. Vasilek-blue is the unifying field-flower color of Russian rural summer. The color refers to a fresh cornflower at peak bloom in a Russian wheat field: a saturated, slightly cool bright blue.

Moderately saturated colors gain a small bump in P3 — the difference is usually visible side-by-side on wide-gamut hardware but won't change the character of the color.
