Hollowed Acqua

#022a0e
Notes

Hollowed Acqua (#022A0E) is a deep green with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (138°, 91%, 9%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary magenta. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Hollowed
adjective

Old English holh, hollow — past-participle of hollow. As a color modifier, hollowed implies the deep-and-cavernous-and-architectural quality of carved-out-cave-and-tunnel interior, particularly the Cappadocian and Lalibela hand-carved rock-cut churches and underground cities. Sits at the deep-and-architectural end of the grid, parallel to cavernous with hand-carved register.

Acqua
noun

The Italian word for water — used in fashion vocabulary for the pale blue-green of clear pool water and acqua marina hued silks. The color refers to the water of a Roman fountain in summer: a soft, slightly green-shifted pale blue with the optical clarity of mineral spring water. Lighter than aqua.
