Vaulted Sodalite
Vaulted Sodalite (#02212E) is a deep cyan with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Old French voulte, vault via Latin volūta (rolled) — past-participle of vault. As a color modifier, vaulted implies the deep-and-architectural-and-Gothic quality of Salisbury-Cathedral-and-Chartres-Cathedral nave-vault overhead-stone-arched ceiling. Sits at the deep-and-architectural end of the grid, parallel to cavernous with cathedral-vault register.
A sodium-aluminum silicate mineral — saturated blue, mined principally in Brazil, Russia, and Greenland. Sodalite is one of the four lazurite-group blue minerals (with lazurite, hauyne, and nosean). The color refers to a polished Brazilian sodalite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of opaque silicate.
