Engraved Mar
Engraved Mar (#01AEAA) is a deep cyan with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (179°, 99%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old French engraver, to dig in — past-participle of engrave. As a color modifier, engraved implies a clear-and-precisely-cut quality, the crisp color of Albrecht-Dürer-and-Hogarth hand-pulled engraving-print fine-line incised-image. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to etched and inscribed in usage.
The Catalan and Spanish word for sea — used in Mar Menor (Spanish), Mar de la Tranquilidad, and the saturated blue-green of Iberian Mediterranean coast. The color refers to the Mar Cantábrico off northern Spain at sunset: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the optical depth of cold Atlantic water.
