Patrician Mangrove

#019463
Notes

Patrician Mangrove (#019463) is a deep teal with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (160°, 99%, 29%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary red. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Patrician
adjective

Latin patrīcius, of the noble class — derived from pater (father). As a color modifier, patrician implies a saturated-and-aristocratic-and-Roman-Republic quality, the deep-rich color of Roman-Patrician-class toga and senatorial-livery hereditary-aristocratic dress. Sits at the bold-and-aristocratic end of the grid, parallel to senatorial and imperial.

Mangrove
noun

Tropical-coastal salt-tolerant trees — Rhizophora, Avicennia, Bruguiera — whose tangled prop-roots define tropical estuaries from Florida to Borneo. Mangrove color refers to mature mangrove foliage seen against tidal water: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the matte finish of dense salt-adapted leaves.

Moderately saturated colors gain a small bump in P3 — the difference is usually visible side-by-side on wide-gamut hardware but won't change the character of the color.
