Dim Amazonite
Dim Amazonite (#012E0B) is a deep green with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (133°, 96%, 9%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary magenta. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English dim, dark, obscured. As a color modifier, dim implies reduced luminance without specific saturation effect — a dim red is a less luminous version of red rather than a less saturated one. Sits at the value-only end of the deep grid, closer to dark than to plush.
A blue-green variety of microcline feldspar — colored by trace lead and water in its crystal structure. Mined since ancient times in the Russian Urals and now in Colorado, Madagascar, and Brazil. The color refers to a polished amazonite cabochon: a soft, slightly muted blue-green with the cloudy translucency of feldspar. Cooler than jade, warmer than cerulean, with the mineral-trade specificity of a stone named for the Amazon basin where it doesn't actually occur.
