Neon Kuri

#fec033
Notes

Neon Kuri (#FEC033) is a true amber with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (42°, 99%, 60%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary azure. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Neon
adjective

Greek néon, new — element-name (atomic-number 10), discovered by William Ramsay in 1898. As a color modifier, neon implies a saturated-and-electric-glow quality, the bright color of Las-Vegas-and-Times-Square neon-marquee gas-discharge-tube emission. Sits at the bright-and-electric end of the grid, parallel to electric and fluorescent in usage.

Kuri
noun

The Japanese chestnut — Castanea crenata — a culinary and ornamental tree across Japan. Kuri-iro (chestnut color) refers to the warm brown of roasted chestnut shells. The color refers to freshly roasted kuri in autumn: a soft, slightly muted warm brown with the matte finish of toasted nut. Drier than caramel, warmer than walnut.
